Smiles in Tecate –  34:33 Minutes

Director: Jerri Iris Sher

One in 700 babies is born with cleft deformities due to lack of prenatal care and exposure to hazardous chemicals in the environment. This story shows the generosity of volunteer surgeons going to third-world countries to operate on children with cleft lip and cleft palate disease. Smiles International Foundation, founded by Dr. Jeff Moses set up a clinic in Tecate, Mexico for families in all parts of the country who need medical help with these deformities (causing impairment of speech, hearing, and sight). These four doctors have volunteered at clinics and performed collectively over 12,000 operations. Witness first-hand the knowledge, patience and expertise these surgeons have while providing medical help, relief, and hope completely free to thousands of families. The beautiful feeling they experience from giving back with their highly trained medical skills is breathtaking.
